What Does "Gross Tonnage" Mean?

1. The Small Vessel / Simplified Formula

For small vessel sea-service forms or standard registrations, the formula generally looks like this:

Gross Tonnage = (L × B × D × S) / 100

The hull shape coefficient (S) changes based on the type of boat:
