At WOT (100% throttle), a marine engine will burn approximately 10% of its rated horsepower in gallons per hour. For instance, a 150 HP engine consumes roughly 15 GPH, and a 300 HP engine burns roughly 30 GPH.
Modern Yamaha four-stroke systems utilizing electronic fuel injection (EFI) and advanced engine control modules (ECMs) outperform this legacy standard, dropping fuel burn at wide-open throttle down to roughly 9% or 9.5% of total rated horsepower, and maximizing savings during cruise profiles.
Locating Your Cruising "Sweet Spot"
The most efficient RPM range for modern Yamaha engines is typically between 3000 and 4000 RPM.
