Fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) hull weights can vary significantly depending on lay-up thickness, core materials, and internal structural stringers.
Dry Weight vs. Wet / Towing Weight:
- Dry Weight: The baseline weight of the boat hull, deck, and installed engines without fuel, fresh water, gear, or safety equipment.
- Fuel Payload: Gasoline weighs roughly 6.1 lbs per gallon (0.73 kg/L), while fresh water weighs 8.34 lbs per gallon (1.0 kg/L). A full 100-gallon tank adds over 600 lbs to your total towing load.
- Trailer Weight: Always add 800 to 1,500+ lbs (360-680+ kg) to your calculations to account for the aluminum or steel boat trailer itself.
